Wood & Hughes Silver Vase with Birds Perched on Handle circa 1880
Regular price $1,000.00
Wood & Hughes silver vase with birds perched on handle, circa 1880. This beautiful piece is fashioned from 900/1000 coin silver--standing 9 1/2" tall and weighing 16 ounces. Hallmark as shown. The heart-shaped handles make this a lasting gift for anniversaries or Valentine's Day.
Wood & Hughes began in 1833 with a partnership between Jacob Wood, William Gale and Jasper Hughes. Both Wood and Hughes had been apprentices under Gale. William Gale was succeeded in the business by his son William Gale Jr. (1825-1885). Some of Gale’s works belong to museum collections, such as those of the Brooklyn Museum. The Gale and the Wood & Hughes firms grew to once be the largest manufacturers of silverware in the U.S.
