Pair of CJ Vander English Sterling Silver Tapersticks Candlesticks in Queen Anne Style
Pair of multi-faceted English cast silver tapersticks/ candlesticks, by illustrious designer CJ Vander in the Queen Anne style and from 1970. Measuring 5.7'' tall and 3.3'' wide at base. Weighing 13.2 troy ounces. Bearing hallmarks as shown.
The origins of the company date back to Alexander Macrae who established his business in 1856 in Covent Garden, London. In 1870 he entered in partnership with Martin Goldstein changing the firm's name to Macrae & Goldstein. The partnership was dissolved in 1878 and Martin Goldstein continued to trade under his own name until 1886, when he sold the firm to Cornelius Joshua Vander (1837-1904), a former apprentice.The company continued to prosper in the 20th century under the leadership of C.J. Vander’s sons.
