Pair of William Pitts, English sterling silver Georgian platter trays from 1790, with gadrooned rims, in an elegant, geometric design. They measure 15 3/4'' in depth by 12'' in width by 1'' in height, weigh 74 troy ounces, and bear hallmarks as well as Christie's Auction stickers as shown.

William Pitts was London silversmith, who apprenticed to his father Thomas Pitts I. His mark was first entered in 1781. His son, William, was apprenticed to his father starting in 1806. By 1816, William Pitts had begun to specialize in producing ornate cast candlesticks in the rococo style. He went on to work as a designer, sculptor and chaser for Paul Storr, the most celebrated Regency era English silversmith.

Some of William and Thomas Pitt's pieces are in the permanent collections of prestigious museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
