Hester Bateman Sterling Silver 1782 Georgian Sauce Boat
Rare Hester Bateman sterling silver sauce boat from 1782 in an elegant Georgian style. It measures 5 1/2'' from handle to spout by 3'' in height and weighs 3.1 troy ounces.
The Bateman family are the most famous silversmiths of the Georgian era. The lineage was started by Hester Bateman in 1761. William was second son of Jonathan and Ann Bateman and the grandson of Hester. In 1834 silver commissions for the great royal retail firm Rundell, Bridge. Rundell were carried out by the grand scale manufacturing establishment run by William Bateman junior who was the great-grandson of Hester Bateman and the firm effectively became royal silversmiths to King William IV.
