Frederic Remington (1861-1909) was an American artist renowned for capturing the American West through sculpture, painting, and illustration. Remington grew up in New York and made multiple trips to the American frontier in the 1880s, which profoundly influenced his artistic vision. He became famous for depicting cowboys, Native Americans, cavalry soldiers, and frontier life with remarkable authenticity and dynamic energy.
Remington began sculpting in the 1890s, relatively late in his career, but quickly mastered the medium. His sculptures are characterized by dramatic movement and emotional intensity, often showing horses and riders in motion. While most of his pieces were cast in bronze, some rare silver examples exist.
