Black, Starr & Frost Set of 11 Sterling Silver Dessert Bowls with Fitted French Cut Glass Liners
Early 20th century Black, Starr & Frost set of 11 sterling silver dessert bowls on matching stands both with pierced scrollwork with floral motifs and ribbon-bows, fitted with cut-glass liners by Cristallerie de Lorraine France. The stands measure 7 3/4'' in diameter by 1/2'' in height, while the bowls measure 4 1/2'' in diameter by 2 1/4'' in height. Total silver weight is 128.7 ozt. Each piece bears hallmarks as shown.
The oldest continuously operating jewelry firm in the United States, Black, Starr & Frost also produced objects in silver. Already in 1860, the company received an order for more than $12,000 of jewelry and silverware from Edward, Prince of Wales. In 1929, Black, Starr & Frost merged with Gorham Corporation, and was renamed Black, Starr, Frost-Gorham.
